I Hope Something Grows Between the Spaces of my Words

Today I arrived back … home?

“editing is the ruthless suppression of the inessential” — The Center for Digital Storytelling (now Storycenter)

senses • imagery • emotional attachment • lesson/feeling of change • vulnerable • authenticity, specificity simplicity • impossible complexity • how

small moment –> big change     question –> answer

Celebrating one year of figuring out how to write in English, again.

stillness is sitting

while the slug meanders

through blades of grass:

munch

munch

munch

munch

listening is being with

the bubbling stream water,

as she tells you of the mystery

you

once were,

with laughing, garbled notes

reflection is knowing

that the still pond gives back

a deceptive interpretation;

look for your self in the ocean,

the swamp,

the rivers.

growth is letting go

the weight of leaves in autumn:

twirl, hurl,

give yourself away

to darkness and cold,

and buds will begin again.

do not keep yourself so heavy

grief is not a weight

but a space of clearing;

when we feel all is lost,

our souls are asking us

for a space of healing.

there was something that used to travel with me.

i can’t name it anymore.

i once told its story;

it used to be my own.

but it left me one day in slumber,

the dreamweaver whispered

to the gatekeeper of my thoughts

some magical words of release.

i did not ask! i gave no consent!

it is gone.

part of the me that was

is no more.

i am gone.

i might mourn the passing,

i might spit curses at the thief.

but the buds of spring bloom

on bare stalks above me

where there used to be many a leaf.

Thank you to everyone who courageously shared their words alongside me. You helped me remember how beautiful it is to build connections, grow meaning, and encounter my own words within a community of passionate storytellers.
