In my scholarly life I will carry the new writing skills I learned in ENVS 160. The way we have learned to write has already helped me a lot in my Exploration and Discovery class and my art history class. Being able to write in an interesting as well as scholarly way has improved my grades in both classes. I have also learned how to (mostly) cite sources correctly which has been very necessary in E&D and my art class as we have been writing research papers that require a long list of sources. Aside from the writing skills that I have learned this semester, I have also learned how to read actively and effectively. I now know what types of things to look for when reading and I know how to take proper notes that cover the material I just read. The way I have learned to actively read will help me as I finish my research papers, I have a lot of reading to finish in the next few days and being able to read the books and articles effectively will allow me to understand the material better. My online skills have also improved a lot during our semester, writing and designing posts has been really fun and I think I will use those skills to write more posts throughout the summer on things that I’m doing or new things that I learn. I’ve also learned how to find good scholarly sources quickly online. This skill will help me all throughout college for future papers I have to write and projects I have to do. I am thinking of majoring in art history, so being able to find credible sources quickly will hopefully improve my writing. Aside from learning so many necessary skills for writing, reading, and technology I learned a lot about how to interpret our world and how everyone has a different interpretation. Solving environmental problems means something different to every culture around the world. In learning this, I will carry an open mind with me into whatever I learn or experience in life. I learned how to listen to different opinions and to be ok with them even if they completely conflict with my own opinions. This semester we covered some topics that weren’t that interesting to me which made it hard to motivate myself to do any of the work, I learned that there are going to be things in life that I don’t like and I’m going to have to push through and complete them. I also learned that I have to gain more self-discipline because this semester I really struggled with completing assignments on time. If I learn how to do this, everything in life will become easier because I won’t be worried about work constantly. Overall, I think I learned a lot of new skills in ENVS160 that I will be able to carry throughout my academic career and in everyday life, I definitely learned the most in this class this semester than my other classes, which is cool because I was expecting to learn more in my Spanish or English class.
