Full Concentration Proposal

This concentration combines my interests and passions for food, technology, and innovation while exploring the tension between society and technology in the traditional and essential setting of agriculture. I will consider the role that AgTech will play in providing healthy food for the growing population in the next several decades and how social and political forces will help or hinder in the process. In addition, I am interested in the important role that entrepreneurial ventures play in implementing new technologies. Marketing, financing, and other entrepreneurial methods will have to be used in conjunction with innovative agricultural technology.

This proposal has been developed throughout ENVS 220, during the fall of my sophomore year. I will continue to research and study courses concerning agricultural technology throughout my next two years at Lewis and Clark, culminating in my senior capstone project.

There are several […]

In praise of artificial food — Aeon Opinions

Artificial food. That’s what humans eat. I say this to anyone who will listen. ‘Oh yes,’ comes the reply. ‘The more’s the pity. Cheap, nasty, imitation food-like substances. It’s high time to return to natural food.’ But, no, I mean artificial in its original sense of man-made, produced by humans, artfully created. Our distant ancestors […]
