Overview
For a semester, my peers and I dove once again into the nuts and bolts of tackling environmental problems. We studied frameworks and approaches like collaborative decision making and adaptive management, concepts like wicked problems, and applied our new knowledge to real-world and current environmental issues. Our field session to Washington coast’s Willapa Bay opened us up to the tense world of competing interests as we heard from community members and government employees about the pros and cons of using pesticides in oyster farming – or aquaculture. Stemming from this, we grouped up, researched, and presented on a project of our choice, and much of the rest of the semester was dedicated to developing our ideas for capstone projects.
