Per-Urban Development in the Ezulwini Valley
Kelsey Kahn, Erin Schiebe & Robin Zeller
Spring 2013
Our research project revolves around the spatial analysis of historical and current photos of the Ezulwini Valley in Swaziland. In order to do further research while we are in the Ezulwini Valley this summer we created maps displaying land-use and settlement change over the past 40 years. We georeferenced aerial photos of the valley from 1972, 1999, and current day on GIS and identified the changes in development over time. Our final product is located in three separate maps on GeoCommons for 1972, 1999, and present day. These interactive maps will be beneficial to us and the other participants in our overseas program because we will be completing projects related to agriculture, community health, and migration while we are in the field and the maps may give us good background for our research.
