The Subcommittee on General Education (SoGE) was formed by Lewis & Clark’s College of Arts & Sciences Curriculum Committee (CC) in February 2016 to build on faculty interest following a February 2 Groundhog Day event focusing on general education and featuring Paul Hanstedt of Roanoke College. The committee nominally consists of interested CC members and reports back to CC, but participation in weekly SoGE meetings (spring 2016: Tue 5 pm, Maggie’s; summer/fall 2016 meetings TBD) and related conversations is entirely open to Lewis & Clark faculty, students, and staff. SoGE is chaired by Biology faculty member Greta Binford. A Google Drive folder of SoGE materials, accessible to the entire LC community, is available here, and most SoGE resources, such as the four GE models and sample identity/goals statement discussed at our faculty meeting on May 3, are shared on this site.
Anticipating a report back to Lewis & Clark’s accreditors late spring 2017, SoGE intends to facilitate broad conversation and movement toward GE reform on campus through 2016–17. Please visit this site for updates, and consider subscribing to regular posts. There is also a related SoGE Google Group that members of the LC community may request to join.
