DS Training – Level 3 (Network Admins)

Here is an outline of items covered under DS training topics for level 3 (network admins). Training sessions on these topics took place Feb 17; for the password to video recordings of these sessions, please email [email protected].

  • Custom CSS/PHP
    • General logic mindmap for multisite/site functions.php & style.css
    • All multisite theme functions.php & style.css edits documented on GoogleDrive
  • Genesis Support
    • Challenge: Many official theme setup pages, code snippets, etc. behind a paywall
    • Workaround: There are lots of Genesis users out there!  Google it.
  • Jetpack Support
    • Lots and lots of plugin modules, most fairly self-explanatory.
    • Continued occasional login issues with Jetpack Single Sign On; we’re working on them with Jetpack support
  • Plugin/Theme Management
    • Multisite admins do all initial plugin & (Genesis) theme installations
    • We manage plugin availability for admins via Multisite Plugin Manager
    • We can view sites using particular plugins & themes via Network Plugin Auditor
    • Themes can be network enabled for all admins…or not
  • Toolset Support
  • User Management
    • Review: Remember Login/Profile info from level 1 training
    • All multisite users managed via network admin, with site-specific roles
    • All DS users initially added by a network admin individually or in bulk
    • Once logged in, users can access any other DS site for which they have appropriate permissions
  • WordPress Support
    • There are existing sites like this DS help site and WP.com support
    • And given the number of WP users worldwide, a simple search can often help
    • L&C WP user Meetup would be great support as well
  • WPEngine Support
    • WPEngine is our WordPress hosting service
    • They do important security stuff; upgrade WP core; make sure the lights are on; etc.
    • WPEngine also provides support for our queries
