Consumer Reports, the advocacy publication, wants to ban the label “natural” on all products.

If food labels have to ban “natural,” where would we stop? The word “natural” is used to sell all sorts of things. Or, would this simply result in slippery attempts to get around “natural” via e.g. “green” or “eco” or “healthy” or “earth-friendly” or “in harmony with the universe”?? My students know that “natural” is a Big Word I don’t use, but a proposed ban on labeling food products as such would lead to all sorts of interesting questions.
