We welcome students enrolled in environmental programs in the United States to complete the EcoTypes survey. Some students take the survey as part of a course assignment; others may simply be interested in exploring fundamental ideas connected to how we approach environmental issues. (You may also take it if you’re not a student!)
The survey will take you about 15-20 minutes. You do not need to give your name, and your responses will remain confidential. By supplying your email address we will send you an analysis of your results, including your personalized EcoTypes scores. (You may elect not to store your answers if you wish; see introduction to survey below.)
[Looking for the quick themes survey instead?]
Make sure to come back to this site when you’ve completed the survey. Then you can compare your responses with others, and learn more about EcoTypes. If you’d like help interpreting your emailed report, see here.
If any questions or concerns, feel free to email Prof. Jim Proctor.
[From EcoTypes survey introduction:]
This confidential 20-30 minute survey was designed by Prof. Jim Proctor of Lewis & Clark College, and is primarily intended for undergraduate students in U.S. institutions of higher education, though anyone may take it. If you choose to participate, you must complete all items in one attempt, so make sure to allocate sufficient time to do this. We recommend using a computer to complete the survey; it may be difficult to complete on smaller devices unless you rotate them to landscape (sideways) mode.
Survey items are organized into six brief sections. The bulk of this survey consists of a series of environmental statements: please read each statement carefully, then indicate how much you may disagree or agree, based on your understanding and opinion. If you aren’t sure, please choose the option you are most comfortable with. Some questions may sound repetitive: this is a common survey technique to make sure we have captured your views accurately.
Following the environmental statements, there is a brief section on your general values, and one section for confidential background information. We ask that you try and complete all sections, as this will provide the greatest educational value to you and fellow participants, but if for any reason you wish not to continue, you may simply exit the survey.
We request that you enter your email address below. We will use it to send you a personalized EcoTypes report based on your answers. This service is free, and is part of our intent to promote educational benefit to you. You should receive this report via email within about 24 hours of completing the survey.
We also request that you allow us to store your answers so that fellow participants like yourself may examine general (anonymous) patterns on the EcoTypes website. These data will never be shared along with your email address. If for any reason you would not like us to store your answers, you may indicate this option at the end of the survey.
