Small towns in Oregon have featured prominently in The New York Times over the last few months…though for unfortunate reasons, including the Umpqua Community College gun violence tragedy leading to an NYT article on gun culture in Roseburg, and now the reverberations of the Malheur occupation in Burns. I wonder what sort of picture of rural Oregon emerges to those who have no firsthand experience?
