Place

March 11, 2017 7:35 pm by James Proctor — last modified March 24, 2017 2:32 pm

« Back to Glossary Index

A hybrid term suggesting a convergence of processes (realities) and perspectives (knowledges) in a location; the resultant “global sense of place” exemplifies cosmopolitanism (though classic notions of place as predominantly local/natural still abound in popular discourse). Place is one alternative approach to environment/nature consistent with contemporary theory.
