It is difficult to describe the effect the stray cats have on you; they’re ubiquitous in Marrakech — in part, perhaps, because of the open dumpster system of trash collection. They tend to live in groups near the trash collection sites. They are in variable states of health, and you hear them arguing and fighting all night long. They are an inescapable part of the visual and auditory landscape of this city. They are mostly cautious and rather sweet.
