On April 3, 2018 we stayed at the Takarakka bush resort in Carnarvon Gorge. One of the many highlights of Carnarvon George is the sky. Specifically, the entire Milky Way. Which, as our tutor brought up, used to be a sight that everyone could see. It is because of our cities light pollution that most of the population has not been able to see and navigate our sky.
Our trip tutor brought us to a flat space in Carnarvon with a tarp and showed us the sky with a laser pointer and telescope. It was a real-life star show that one would typically see at an observatory. We saw Jupiter and its four moons, the orion nebula, Mr.Fuzzy, and a Jewel box of multi-colored stars. That night I couldn’t help think of the song Under the Milky Way by the church. It was truly unforgettable.
