Some hundred years ago in the Tuscan countryside, a farmhouse was built by an Italian family. For reasons unknown to us, they have parted from the place. History has already forgotten the name of the household, but traces of their presence linger.
The children’s bed frames remain, dreaming of older days. Rainwater has collected in rusted metal buckets by the horse stable. Smashed plates and glasses litter the kitchen floor, maybe echoes of a violent goodbye.
Perhaps most perplexing of all, a large television set sits in the center of the living room. It is obviously out of place and was not part of the family. It is just one of the dozen questions this house holds.
I found this gem on a hike in a southern part of Siena called ‘Cassia Sud’. The abandoned place had two stories; all of its windows and doors were open, so I decided to walk in. It’s only inhabitants have been birds for at least 30 years, judging from the quantity of droppings.
The first floor is a barn and the second floor features a kitchen, two bedrooms, one full bathroom and a living room. Current listing price is a modest 745$/ mo. Viewings available only on Sundays and Mondays. Please contact me at [email protected] if interested.
Here are a few photos of our find.
