I was visiting the Portland Art Museum and got myself thoroughly lost. I stumbled upon these artifacts from the Peru/ Ecuador area and I was utterly fascinated. I remember one of the stories from the Ecuador Reader talking about ceramic ware that was very advanced. I believe one of the theories about that was that some Japanese artisans washed ashore in Ecuador and shared their trade with the people there, which I thought was absurd yet highly entertaining. My aunt went to Peru when she was roughly my age and apparently she became very interested in ceramics. She made so many little pots that they started calling her Yarra, the name for the little pots. The nickname stuck so well that I didn’t realize her real name was Angela until I was about 10. My middle name is Angelina after her. After seeing these pieces and knowing that story I am really interested to learn about the ceramics scene and history in Cuenca.
PS Yes I know my picture is upside-down. I’m not sure how to fix that, sorry.
