In India, especially in Hinduism, feet are viewed very auspiciously. Feet are seen as a dirty and humbling appendage, and therefore, greeting people at their feet is a way of showing respect. It is my understanding that in yoga karmic energy flows from your head and releases through your feet. I must have terrible karma because my feet have been punished throughout this entire trip. In one of my last nights in Delhi, my right foot got run over by a cart puller on the way to the Red Fort. On our first group trip in Chennai to St. Thomas, both my feet got infested with red ants. At a solo trip to the Parthasarthy temple, I left my shoes unattended as I usually do by the entrance. I returned after 45 minutes to discover my shoes had been taken. I wonder what I did in my past life to deserve this.
