One of my favorite things to do is explore a new city. It completely indulges my sense of adventure. Coming to London gave me just this opportunity simply because there is so much to do. We have Oyster Cards which get us to a majority of places downtown via the tube. Getting around is so easy, nothing ever seems to be more than a 20 minute ride to the destination. The architecture in London is breathtaking and I am in awe of the history of the city every time I walk down the street. Much of my free time is spent at museums. Most of them are free, so I many of my weekends are spent wandering the halls of these places and taking in all the culture that I can.
My favorite class that we are in is our Diaspora and Transnational Studies class because we frequently go on field trips to look at different areas of the city and the ways different cultural groups have influenced these areas. Being able to walk around and see what we are talking about in class from multiculturalism to gentrification creates a multidimensional perspective in our education.
Currently, we are on spring break and I am writing this from my hostel in Barcelona, Spain. I arrived here with my roommate, Rachel, earlier today via train from Madrid. Later this week, I will take excursions to Paris and Munich. Exploring these countries is an experience unlike any I have had before. I am excited to see what the rest of this spring break holds and am thankful for the opportunity to explore.
