My internship experience has been incredible so far, I am very fortunate to be interning at the Indoamerican Refugee and Migrant Organisation, a charity in Brixton that aims to help the Latin American community in London. This organization offers services such as English classes and legal advising with immigration and benefits. The Latin American community is so small in the UK and is overlooked, so it is great to volunteer at an organization that helps this community. The work atmosphere is lax and friendly, I drink a lot of tea, and have great conversations with my coworkers. My usual tasks are working on a database or working in the reception desk as a bilingual key contact. Besides my internship placement being great, I am also happy that I get to take a short tube ride to Brixton three times a week. Brixton has so much to offer and the office is a short 10 minute walk away from the markets where there is so many different places to eat. I usually take my hour long lunch break at Pop Brixton, a building made out of shipping crates that has different food vendors from Brixton/Lambeth borough, it reminds me so much of Portland and helps when I feel homesick. While I do have to take the tube during rush hour in the morning and evening, it is a fairly short tube ride and it gives me time to read. I really do love my study abroad experience.
