Of all the places we will travel on our adventure in Australis, I am most excited about seeing the Great Barrier Reef! I grew up listening to David Attenborough talk about coral neighbors and box jellyfish on the reef and answering the “what do you want to be when you grow up?” question with ‘marine biologist’ and ‘scuba diver’. I am very eager to see the reef with my own eyes and take in the immense biodiversity firsthand.
In a more general sense, I am excited to jump into a new culture with an almost entirely new group of people! I have had classes with mostly everyone on the trip, and I’m eager to get to know them all better.
I am nervous (and excited) about all of the deadly animals we may encounter in our adventures. While I am definitely worried about all of the venomous and otherwise heinously aggressive fauna, I am confident that Greta will nab all of the spiders before they get me and that as a class, should we be attacked by an angry kangaroo, can handle it together.
