Today we spent the day visiting Australia’s famous Reptile and Wildlife Park. I think I can speak for everyone when I say that the park will truly be a once in a lifetime experience to see animals that most of us have never seen before. We spent the earlier part of the day learning about platypuses and echidnas and then actually had the opportunity to watch them behind an enclosure. Fun fact, many people may not know that male platypuses are actually venomous and have a sharp spur on their hind limb that still puzzles scientists to this day.
Alligators, crocodiles, pythons, wallabies, dingos, koalas, Tasmanian devils, all just a few arm lengths away. We even had the opportunity to view a live Coastal Taipan milking which is a dangerous process that involves taking venom from the snake so that it can be used to make anti-venom to treat snake bites. I think the Wildlife Park finally allowed us to put all that we have learned about the typical Australian flora/fauna to good use. It was truly an amazing excursion that not many people are lucky enough to experience.
