2010–11: GE Constellations

September 1, 2010 By James Proctor

Here is a summary of primary GE activities during 2010-11:

  • Curriculum Committee releases 2009-10 GE Task Force report to Faculty, consisting of three proposed GE distribution models named Orion, Pegasus and Andromeda, with current GE distribution requirements as another option.
  • Separate proposal to revise Scientific and Quantitative Reasoning requirements discussed.
  • Based on feedback, a new distribution model, Capricorn, developed by Curriculum Committee; a different GE model, Sagittarius, developed and submitted by Interdisciplinary Learning Council programs.
  • Proposal approved to separate Core (E&D) from GE reform discussion, given concurrent timing of E&D review.
  • New model, Orion Prime, proposed, based on Orion but including recently proposed SQR requirements, resulting in a total of seven GE distribution models (including current), and a revised SQR model.
  • Faculty ultimately approve Orion Prime.
