Today marked the last day of formal lectures for ENVS 220, so I’d like to take a chance to do a short bullet-point reflection on how this course has impacted me.
- I’ve gained an array of very useful skills, including the ability to use ArcMap, which is something I really wanted to learn about before starting this class. Survey design was also useful.
- Group work was a very enjoyable aspect of the course, and it furthered my team-based project skills.
- The emphasis on forming questions was somewhat useful, but the use of case studies in finding examples of these questions from the beginning would have been wonderful.
- I’ve learned exponentially about salmon, and my interest has grown in the topic as well, thanks to my concentration.
- The concentration part of ENVS 220 gave me something which I can focus on and gain an expertise in for the next 3 years, and I am grateful and excited for this.
As my introduction into the Environmental Studies program at LC, ENVS 220 has been both invigorating and challenging. I have grown and stretched my academic head in ways I’ve not before, and this in itself is a worthwhile reason to look back on this semester and smile.
