My first shot (in the dark)

November 13, 2014 By Kelsey Kahn Leave a Comment

This and last week I began to draft of an outline for my thesis. I started by writing out a history of the Klamath Settlement Agreements and started to speculate on the future of the Klamath Settlement Decision. Throughout the piece, I incorporated some ideas that relate to my more specific focused research questions and started to perform some cursory analysis of key players and proceedings. From there I have begun to synthesize and figure out what concepts should be included in my final outcome.

Up to this point, much of my research has surrounding informal informational interviews. While I have been provided with insightful and nuanced information, it is now necessary for me to find published evidence to support and back up this information. This may prove to be more difficult that it seems as much of the information I have received is not yet directly available to the public. I will have to do some sleuthing for evidence and try to draw connections between documents that are publicly available in order to back up my arguments.

In addition to a final thesis, I think it would be interesting and productive to spend some time working up some sort of report that I can share with the people in the USGS who have supported me through out this process. It would be more than just a critical analysis and exploration (what I intend my final thesis to be), but I have not yet figured out what my final take away is, and therefore, what would be useful and productive to propagate through out the Survey.
