I came up with a draft outline for an honors thesis. I knew that I was unhappy with it even before I received feedback. Something was lacking. I had an argument, I had evidence that what I was saying was valid but I was missing something. While my argument is interesting it is not unique, or at least not the only one of its kind. Someone somewhere has to have made an argument similar to mine, I just don’t know who, when, why, or how. Ironically I need to do some more literature reviews. Now that I have an argument it’s time to back it up with similar arguments that others have made.
I am searching in a few different places to give theoretical weight to my claims. To give a foundation to my discussion of objectivity, I have drawn from philosophy but not yet from the sciences, political sciences, or Federal institutional sciences. The national Academy of Science, specifically “On being a scientist” should give me a way to ground my discussion as far as the sciences while searches in the annals political science and Federal institutional sciences will provide some support in those fields.
From there, I just have to figure out how to weave my argument into the fabric of my outline, and eventually, thesis. The thread that connects all of my current sections is broken in some places and I need to think a bit more about how to keep my argument visible. A little birdie told me that my entire paper must be persuasive, now I have to figure out how do accomplish that in a artful and entertaining way.
