Apply to be an Environment Oregon intern TODAY.
From the Rogue to the Deschutes, and all of the rivers and streams in between, our waterways are a big part of what makes living in Oregon so great. Whether it’s fishing, swimming, or just walking along the banks, every Oregonian should be able to enjoy his or her local waterway knowing it’s protected from irresponsible development and unchecked pollution.
Unfortunately, in the last decade, polluter-driven court decisions gutted the Clean Water Act and left more than half of Oregon’s streams open to unchecked pollution and development—the same streams that feed our rivers, like the mighty Rogue. This means 61,000 miles of streams—and the drinking water sources for nearly 1.8 million Oregonians—are underprotected from toxic dumping, development and more.
Fortunately, this summer the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) proposed a rule to close these loopholes. This historic step is the best chance we have at restoring protections to all of Oregon’s waterways, but big polluters like Exxon-Mobil are pressuring EPA to back down. It’s clear that if polluters win, our rivers will suffer. We know that we can’t compete with polluters’ lobbyists dollar for dollar. But the public is with us, and if we can build enough support, we can convince our decision makers to protect our rivers for good.We are mobilizing thousands of citizens and community leaders across Oregon to help us demonstrate that keeping Oregon’s rivers clean is a top priority for our community.
If you agree that this is a problem that needs to be solved, apply to be an Environment Oregon intern TODAY.
As an intern, you’ll help Environment Oregon educate and engage more students and citizens on this issue. You’ll help us get the issue into the media, build coalitions, organize events and meet with elected officials in Portland and across the state.
You can read more about our internships here.
And if you’re graduating this year: you can also apply for our Fellowship Program– it’s a two year crash course in environmental activism, organizing, advocacy and the type of institution-building that can sustain long-term battles like this one. You can read more about our fellowships here.
I look forward to hearing from you!
