The following is a call for (volunteer) young environmental activists who want to advocate for solar power in Oregon. If this fits you, read on:
Are you interested in engaging with your elected officials and learning more about the legislative process, while speaking directly with your representatives in Oregon’s Capitol?
Environment Oregon is a statewide, citizen-based environmental advocacy organization, with a mission of protecting Oregon’s air, water, and open spaces. Presently, we are working to repower Oregon with clean, renewable energy, by working to pass a series of four pro-solar bills through the Oregon State Legislature with the potential to increase Oregon’s solar power by ten times—that’s huge.
But, to get legislators to vote the right way, we need Oregonians of all ages to weigh in. At our lobby day, attendees will have the chance to speak face-to-face with decision makers and have their voices heard, while urging legislators to move away from dirty, unsustainable fuels like coal and oil, and instead transition to the renewable power of our sun.
To accomplish this, I am emailing to ask for your assistance in recruiting students to our Solar Advocacy Day, on Wednesday, April 15th.
We’ll provide breakfast and a brief training covering the details of the bills and the best ways to speak with elected decision makers. We have nearly 60 meetings already set up with legislators from all across the state. Now, all that’s needed is the support of students and solar advocates across the state.
Please RSVP to our Solar Lobby Day at http://bit.ly/1GtZLTR
I look forward to seeing you and your students there.
Best,
— Michelle Katz
