Background Information
The Friends of Tryon Creek’s (FOTC) mission is to connect people to this important natural area, share our passion for the wonders of nature and inspire environmental stewardship in all. FOTC’s goal of adding value to Tryon Creek State Natural Area is achieved by offering meaningful educational and stewardship programs, creating a range of volunteer opportunities, and developing successful partnerships with Oregon Parks and Recreation Department and others who share our values and goals. For 44 years FOTC has been a leader in offering environmental education programs for schools, summer camps and adult and family ecology programs. Coordinating the community in caring for the health of this forest, over the last 15 years volunteers have cleared one third of the 675 acres of invasive species.
Field Trip Program Coordinator Position Profile
The Field Trip Program coordinator is responsible for overseeing the development, presentation and evaluation of the education programs offered to schools and scout groups at Tryon Creek State Natural Area. The Field Trip Program Coordinator is also responsible for training and retention of volunteer Nature Guides that support education programs. During the summer months the Field Trip Program Coordinator serves as a lead for the half-day summer camp program for children ages 4-6. The Field Trip Program Coordinator works closely with FOTC’s Education Committee and reports to the Education Director.
Candidate Profile
Our ideal candidate must have strong teaching experience, including direct experience working with children in an outdoor setting. Advanced ecological understanding, including background in science education and natural resource interpretation are a necessity. Our ideal candidate will have a passion for environmental education and stewardship as well as a broader understanding of regional ecological issues.
Strong communication skills, along with collaborative leadership are essential. Experience working with and leading volunteers is necessary. Our ideal candidate must also demonstrate a commitment to diversity and inclusiveness. A Bachelor’s degree and 2 years teaching experience (formal and/or non-formal) is required.
Compensation
The salary range is $16.50 – $22.00 an hour.
