Restore salmon habitat in the Salmon Creek watershed by knocking out knotweed with Eradication Nation!
StreamTeam’s Eradication Nation is actively seeking applicants for several part-time Volunteer Herbicide Applicator positions. This is a great opportunity to learn about invasive plant management and to gain experience applying herbicide. With assistance and training from staff, volunteers will assist with control activities from July through October, and prior to the knotweed treatment season, will obtain a Washington Pesticide Applicator license.
Duties:
· Conduct knotweed control activities with staff and other volunteers using a backpack sprayer and stem injection gun
· Use Garmin and Trimble GPS units to map and monitor infestations in the field
· Assist with keeping detailed field data sheets and WSDA herbicide records
Requirements:
· Willingness to obtain a Washington State Department of Agriculture pesticide applicator license (study materials for the exam, fees and transportation will be provided)
· Willingness to work 4 to 8 hour shifts
· Willingness to work outside in all weather conditions, often on uneven terrain
· At least 18 years of age
Time commitment: Minimum of 40 hours with each shift lasting between 4-8 hours. Available work days are Tuesday through Saturdaybetween July 1st and October 15th, 2014.
