Location: Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge, Ridgefield, WA
Date of Term: Sept 14, 2015 to Aug 5, 2016 (Not to exceed 47 weeks or 10.7 months)
Hours: Full time 40 hours/week, Monday– Friday. Frequent work on Saturdays is required especially during the planting season October to March.
Salary: $10.50/hr. Health care benefits are not included. No paid time off.
Note: Applicant must be between the ages of 18-25 at the beginning of the position. This position is funded through Federal source youth initiative funding which is restricted to target hiring of youth ages 18-25.
Housing: Shared housing may be available in a house located on the Refuge.
Position Summary:
The Paid Intern (Intern) will recruit, train, and lead volunteers in habitat restoration programs at Ridgefield NWR. The Intern will spend significant time in the outdoors leading volunteer crews in habitat projects such as tree plantings and invasive plant control. The Intern will also develop and maintain contacts with community organizations, schools and agencies, to recruit volunteers and coordinate event planning. The Intern will assist in the development, planning, scheduling, and implementation of EE & interpretation programs at Ridgefield NWR. The Intern will participate in community events and conduct other visits to present Refuge goals, education opportunities, and volunteer needs. Summary: 40% Development, outreach, and providing EE programs to students and others?: 40% Leading volunteers and executing Habitat Restoration Activities; 20% Volunteer Recruitment, coordination and community outreach. This is a paid intern job which will receive mentoring and on the job training and experience as an employee.
