Please check out the information for the upcoming science symposium on campus, Science Without Limits. The theme this year is Celebrating a Century of General Relativity. The keynote speaker is Dr. Jedidah Isler. Dr. Isler is an astrophysicist, the first African-American woman to graduate from Yale with a Ph.D. in astrophysics, and an leader in outreach of scientists to those whose backgrounds are underrepresented in science.
There is an opportunity for students to meeting in a small group setting with Dr. Isler. If you are interested, please send me (Jessica Kleiss) your name, and I will forward it to Liz Stanhope.
Reasons to participate:
- You want people from across campus to come to our ENVX symposium. The best way to get them to come to ours is to show up!
- You are interested in education (including environmental education!)
- You are interested in diversity, race relations, inclusion, and outreach to the community
- You think general relativity is cool!
The schedule is here, with these two particularly interesting events:
- Friday night (9/11) movie screening with discussion with professor Paul Allen (who is an amazing professor, if you haven’t had him)
- Tuesday evening (9/15) keynote, part physics, part Dr. Isler’s personal journey.
