Dear ENVS students,
Many of you are working hard toward our ENVS symposium in October, and you’re hoping for wide student participation from many departments on campus. Note that one of the best ways to get people interested in YOUR symposium is to attend THEIR symposium!
There’s a great keynote speaker tonight: Dr. Jedidah Isler will present a lecture titled “Blazing Quasars and Blazing Trails: A Journey of Discovery” from 7:30-8:30 p.m. in Council Chamber as part of the Science Without Limits symposium. While this may sound 100% like something you’re not interested in, think again:
- You are all interdisciplinary scholars, interested in doing creative scholarship. One of the best ways to differentiate yourself is to learn about a subject disparate from your own, and try to apply insight and motivation to your own work!
- A keynote address is usually aimed at a broad, “layman” audience. This is one of your best chances at seeing a presentation on Quasars and general relativity that you can understand.
- You might feel busy & overwhelmed, but believe me: attending events like this are usually a very good use of your time, and they make for higher quality work and thought down the road.
