Dear ENVS Community,
Help Johnson Creek Watershed Council document the distribution of salmon species through Johnson Creek using ODFW’s protocol. Training is provided from biologists at ODFW.
Mandatory Training and Volunteer Orientation:
Thursday, October 15th, 6-8pm at Johnson Creek Watershed Council’s office (1900 SE Milport Rd Suite B, Miwaukie, OR).
We are located on the backside of the building. Use the McBrod Ave entrance to our parking lot.
Please arrive by 5:45 to register.
How the surveys work: Volunteers will walk selected sections of Johnson Creek in pairs or survey from designated static observation points a minimum of one weekend between October 17th and December 12th, searching for salmon and evidence of spawning. Waders and necessary equipment are provided. Allow 2-3 hours per survey, plus travel time.
Important note: Some volunteer surveyors will walk directly in the stream during winter flows, which can be difficult. Anyone entering the water must have full mobility to participate in this activity. There are opportunities to survey from the stream banks or at static observation points.
RSVP required for training. Contact Danielle Miles at danielle@jcwc.org or call 503-652-7477.
