Presented in partnership with Portland State University, Metro, and Forest Park Conservancy, Friends of Trees invites you to the first installment in our lecture series “Trees and Health: Growing the Solution” on Wednesday, September 28th from 7-9 PM.
The speakers for this lecture are Geoffrey Donovan of the US Forest Service and Vivek Shandas of Portland State. Donovan will be talking about his recent study that used moss growing on trees to uncover air pollution hot spots in Portland, as well as sharing other local and national studies that show how trees can aid us in leading healthy lives. Shandas will discuss mapping urban tree canopy as a strategy for planning for better human health when planting trees. His research provides a better understanding as to which areas are vulnerable to health concerns due to lack of trees and where to focus tree planting efforts to address these needs.
This lecture will be held at Portland State University, Lincoln Hall (1620 SW Park Ave). Space is limited, so please follow this link to RSVP ahead of time!
