Local non-profit Johnson Creek Watershed Council and the PSU Indigenous Nations Studies Program are partnering to provide an educational and family-friendly talk on Pacific Lamprey on December 6th from 6-8pm.
Pacific Lamprey are an ancient fish native to the Pacific Northwest. These fish are an important first food for Native American tribes throughout the region. Recently, Pacific Lamprey populations have declined rapidly leaving Native American leaders and Western Scientists alike searching for a solution. Join us to learn more about the cultural significance, Traditional Ecological Knowledge, and western science surrounding this legendary fish.
Speakers will include: Gabe Sheoships, member of the Umatilla Tribe and a local expert on Pacific Lamprey. He received his Masters of Science from OSU in fisheries science. Janel Hull, Outreach Coordinator at Johnson Creek Watershed Council. Cassidy Hayes, PSU Environmental Science major and Indigenous Nations Studies minor student.
Light refreshments and snacks will be served. The event will be held at the
