The Environmental Program Specialist, located in the Portland Water Bureau, performs a variety of specialized activities in support of the Water Bureau’s Resource Protection and Planning Group. Primary responsibilities include assisting the Education Program Manager in educating diverse audiences of adults and K-12 students about the Portland drinking water system in both outdoor and classroom settings; escorting visitors to water supply facilities, including full-day interpretive tours of the Bull Run Watershed; addressing subject matter including drinking water regulations, watershed ecology, hydrology, water quality, water system history, source water protection, resource conservation, and water supply planning and management; assisting with program scheduling, tracking, reporting, evaluation, and improvement; assisting with development of and updates to program materials and resources; building positive working relationships with bureau staff, partner organizations, and the public; following security and safety protocols; and responding, when necessary, to first aid or evacuation emergencies in a remote location. Position requires a flexible schedule, including frequent weekend obligations.
