Clark County Vegetation Management is hiring Invasive Species Field Workers for the 2017 field season (2 Positions). These are temporary positions working under the direction of the Noxious Weed Control Services Lead Field Inspector with responsibilities of performing noxious weed survey and control on county lands. Each position pay $15/hour and is six months in duration (or 1040 hours), beginning April 3rd. Work hours are Monday through Friday, 8 hours a day. JOB SUMMARY
Responsibilities include assisting with inspection of mitigated wetlands and stormwater facilities to detect noxious weed infestations and provide control to species. Positions include collection, mapping, and maintaining data on noxious weed infestations using GPS, ArcGIS software and a combination of herbicide application. The mitigated wetlands program is comprised of 600 acres and the stormwater facilities program is 350 acres. Employees will be working in all weather conditions. This work includes a combination of herbicide application and inspection of county lands and recording data in ArcGIS. These positions involve working within an environment with exposure to chemicals, pollen, insects, water, and bees.
KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Assist in survey and control of noxious weeds and ensure compliance with State regulations.
• Prepare reports of weed infestations as identified through inspections.
• Apply herbicide and operate equipment such as GPS, watercraft, backpack sprayers, ATV and machetes.
• Perform related duties as assigned by the Noxious Weed Field Inspector or Lead Coordinator.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Experience in plant identification (native and ornamental).
• Ability to stand and walk for 8-10 hour shifts.
• Must be able to carry a 40 lb. backpack sprayer of herbicide mix.
• Must be comfortable working in a remote setting.
• Possession of a current Washington State Herbicide Applicator’s license or the ability to obtain one
within thirty days.
• Restoration planting and landscape maintenance experience preferred.
• ATV and kayak experience preferred.
• Experience with Microsoft office programs/ArcGIS experience is helpful.
• Ability to successfully pass a drug screen.
• Must have a valid driver’s license, proof of auto insurance, and a clean driving record from the past 3 years.
