The Merck Family Fund is a small independent foundation that will make approximately $2.7 million in grants in 2017 to non-profit organizations. Intern Position Description: Significant writing, on-line research, phone contact with non-profit groups and technical assistance. In addition to completing a substantial project, the intern will assist with administrative services (phone coverage, processing mail, responding to requests for information, and tracking applications).
Project Areas: Based on interests, skills, and the needs of the Fund, the intern’s duties will cover the following areas:
1. Publications. Compile research materials and write white papers, reports, evaluations and newsletters. Create charts, graphs and maps for inclusion in publications and reports.
2. Grantmaking and Issue Research. Assist with grant proposal review and draft summaries. Research issues dealing with program areas.
3. Administration. Answer phone calls and mail, filing, day to day correspondence.
Qualifications: All prospective interns should:
• Be genuinely committed to the Fund’s mission.
• Be currently pursuing or have completed an undergraduate degree and have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Possess a demonstrable ability to write clearly and concisely
• Be comfortable with Macintosh computers, familiar with Internet research, highly organized, and comfortable working in a small office.
• Have a working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe InDesign and FileMaker software.
• Have integrity, curiosity, and a sense of humor.
The position is full time (4 days/week) and offers a $2,000 per month stipend for a four-day work week.
The foundation is located in Milton, MA (12 miles south of Boston, MA), 1 block from MBTA. Reimbursement of MBTA Monthly LinkPass (Bus & Subway).
