Forest Park, one of your Portland Parks, has been chosen as a 2017 Leave No Trace Hot Spot. In June, PP&R will be hosting a number of activities and trainings for various partners and constituents presented by the Subaru/Leave No Trace Traveling Trainers and in collaboration with Portland Parks and Recreation. We want to invite you to attend a FREE Leave No Trace training workshop at the Hoyt Arboretum Visitors Center.
Training Description
This 3-hour interactive presentation and discussion will focus on elements of the Leave No Trace principles and is specifically designed for agency employees, park partners, guide services, outfitters, park hosts, friends groups, volunteers, and other educators who educate the public. Light refreshments and beverages provided.
Topics include:
• Leave No Trace outdoor skills and ethics program as it stands today, which is applicable to all outdoor enthusiasts and all environments.
• Effective Communication- how to teach Leave No Trace methods to others and how to promote change in visitor and/or employee behavior.
• Authority of the Resource- a proven method of changing visitor behavior through deemphasizing regulation in favor of education about the natural world around us. This technique is widely used by federal, state and local land managers as well as volunteer stewards around the world.
This training utilizes the “Train-the-Trainer” format and involves general Leave No Trace techniques, ethics and how to effectively disseminate Leave No Trace information to users. The Subaru/Leave No Trace Traveling Trainers will use interactive activities, demonstrations, and media to facilitate the learning process and allow everyone to be active in the training. Participants will be provided with information on how to easily and effectively integrate Leave No Trace into their daily lives, programs, outreach and businesses.
