2018 Oz Farm Apprenticeship Program Point Arena, CA

Applications for 2018 are due January 1, 2018

Oz Farm and Retreat Center is hidden in a quiet, private valley on one of the most pristine stretches of the scenic Mendocino County coast, 130 miles north of San Francisco.

Bordered with redwood forest, and with the Garcia River running through its 240 acres, Oz Farm is blessed with tranquility, fresh air and clear water. Oz Farm is ‘off-the-grid’, using solar and wind power for all its operations. For over 50 years, Oz has changed and grown from a commune to an organic farm and retreat facility. The farm changed ownership in March of 2015 which has brought new life, fresh energy and a passion to grow not only as a business but as a community too! One of Oz Farm’s core missions is to educate and train a new generation of sustainable farmers. Our apprenticeship program provides space for humans to live healthier lives while contributing to our local food system.

The Mendocino coast has many sleepy beach towns and unpopulated beaches, world class waves, diving, and great hiking. Although the town of Point Arena is small, the community its self is large and thriving!

Stipend:

$300 a month for personal expenses and two weeks vacation time with prior approval.

What to Expect:

35 hour work week includes a seed to seed full circle educational hands on experience! Through practice and application of skills you will be able to learn all realms of communal living, farming, and land stewardship. (A general education in all aspects of running a small scale organic farm with diversified fruit and vegetable production, manufacturing, and marketing.)

What we Expect:

A committed, passionate being who works wholeheartedly! An awesome community member who carries their own weight and can support when and where needed. A conscious communicator and exquisite performer of all tasks from planting seeds to dusting cabins. (Someone willing to work past 5 pm when needed! )

Work Week at Oz:

M-W-F: Farm Focused: transplanting, propagation, weeding, pruning, harvest, rotational field maintenance

T-Th: CSA Harvest, agro-ecological and sustainable food systems education, cabin preparation for retreats, landscaping and community upkeep.

Living Situation:

As part of your work exchange all apprentices will be given:

  • Private 10×12 tent cabin with wood burning stove, running water, and small solar array.
  • Access to the communal farm kitchen that is stocked with:
    • seasonal farm fresh produce
    • bulk food items
    • outdoor shower and bathtub
    • large front and back porch
    • a lounge area with loft space for guests.
  • The opportunity to pursue passion projects on the farm outside of the 35 hour work week.

Dates:

March, 1 2018- Nov 16, 2018

Send Applications to: info@ozfarm.com or

PO Box 244 Point Arena, CA 95468
