This engagement project explores the meanings and dynamics of agriculture education as it is implemented in K-5 schools in Portland, Oregon. Using research and participant interviews, I assessed the extent to which School Garden Programs are able to meet Oregon Department of Education's Next Generation Science Standards. I chose to meet and interview three experts on the topic, who each play a role in school garden programs in the area. The first was Laura Taylor from West Multnomah Soil & Water Conservation District's Youth Garden Program, the second was David Beller from Grow Portland, and the third was Sarah Phillips from Sauvie Island Center. Using this background, I found and created common school garden learning objectives that I compared to the NGSS standards from kindergarten through fifth grade.
