For our situated research project in ENVS 220, looked at peri urban settlements in India. We particularly looked into environmental health and access to water within these communities, and assess effectiveness of varying government initiatives and involvement within these typically unrecognized populations. We concluded that a large element of the issue of water access in peri-urban India relates to the government's criminalization of informal means of water access.
Framing question: What obstacles to equitable access to clean drinking water are currently in place and what can be done to address them?
Focus question: What are the priorities of the Indian government as it relates to providing access to clean drinking water to residents of peri-urban settlements and how are these priorities fulfilled?
