Welcome to my capstone page!
I explore animal welfare concerns and policy in the agricultural industry in the United States and Europe. The primary focus is on chicken farms, and the welfare standards (or lack of welfare standards) at the U.S. federal level, along with animal welfare legislation in the European Union and member states. The primary goal is to examine how to create meaningful policy to improve the welfare of animals on farms. I conduct samples of nations in the United States and Europe with stronger and weaker health care or companion animal protections laws, and look for correlations with stronger and weaker farm animal welfare laws. I also look at meat prices around the world. This sample views countries that receive high grades on companion animal protection, as assessed by the Animal Protection Index, and high health care indexes, as assessed by Numbeo, and reveals the average grades these countries receive for farm animal welfare laws.
