The main objective of this study was to assess if the Oregon Outdoor Recreation Initiative is representative of college students’ recreation concerns and gather preliminary opinions about its impact areas via a survey and discussion site. Since 2016, Travel Oregon has been developing the Oregon Outdoor Recreation Initiative to establish goals and future recreation projects, however, college students were underrepresented in its initial formation and public outreach.
This survey collected a total of 24 responses, with 75% of respondents participating in outdoor recreation over 4 times a month. Students were in favor of investment in outdoor recreation education, on behalf of environmental stewardship. They also expressed concerns relating to recreation accessibility, safety, poor environmental stewardship and temporary ailments.
