Framing question: How can coastal countries reduce urban ocean pollution?
Focus question: Why has Athens struggled to reduce coastal urban pollution?
All around the world there are dead zone areas in the oceans. these are areas where there is little to no oxygen and marine life are not able to survive. The urban runoff of Athens is creating dead zones along the Greek coasts. This situation is not uncommon in many other coastal countries. The methodology we used in this project is ANT Cmap, statistics, Global GIS, and qualitative analysis. We found that the problems Athens is having dealing with pollution stems from the citizens distrust of the government and a feeling that interfering with nature will not create positive results. Greece now needs to create specific policies from the more broad guidelines of the European Union.
