Framing Question: Is the success of forest management policies in late industrialised societies due to industrialisation?
Focus Question: How has forest management in Île-de-France changed as a result of industrialisation?
This project seeks to explore current changes in land use and forest resource management by looking at percent cover and average land use in île-de-France. In most of the country there are small industrial areas separated by large expanses of agricultural or privately owned land. Given the hypothesis of the Kuznets curve, that there is a positive relationship between resource consumption and industrial capital, as countries become more industrialised (eg. sprawling metropolitan areas) average land use will change accordingly. Essentially what this suggests is that there are many small pockets of high income residential zones, characterized by industry, commerce, and substantial resource use, interspersed within privately owned, resource rich, rural areas.
