Our situated project explores the relationship that exists between social standards and physical landscapes. We explore the theories of environmental determinism and possibilism and the affect that physical landscape has on cultural prosperity. To situate our studies, we focused our research on tuna production and consumption in Japan and the current issue they are facing with overfishing. Our research discusses the importance of apex predators such as blue fin tuna for marine biodiversity and proper ecological function. We explore the current shift from a cultural diet of fish consumption, to a more meat centered diet.
