To begin to understand Agriculture in Chile, we researched different agricultural practices and politics surrounding them. Data regarding politics in Chile was scarce, but what we found suggested that Chile is a very private Government. Chile has become more developed in recent years, and has consequently been experiencing environmental issues. However, we could not find very much data about environmental issues regarding conservation agriculture specifically. The information we found regarding the politics of conservation agriculture suggested it was becoming more widespread. However, according to the Food and Agriculture Organization, many farmers in Chile practicing conservation are burning their fields frequently. This releases all stored carbon in the soil back into the atmosphere, and kills some beneficial microbial populations, reversing many of the positive effects of conservation agriculture. The research seems to suggest that there is either a lack of education about restoration agriculture, or a lack of infrastructure to follow through with it.
