I utilized the dialogic model by hosting a dinner centered around the public perceptions of individual action's effectiveness and drawbacks. Participants enjoyed home cooked vegan and non options while discussing ways they utilize daily action in their daily lives, and how those actions center around consumerism and therefore privilege. My scholarship was centered on the works of contemporary environmental thinkers, Maniates and Guthman, and their theories regarding the privilege and consumerism involved in individual environmental action. My project was centered on theories of incrementalism, and by assembling a group we managed to successfully move past the individual scale. By eating together, we developed connections between individuals that would not have otherwise been fostered. My Engagement Project site highlights the progress I made throughout the semester, as well as the scholarship behind the ideas discussed.
