I grew up playing in the great green outdoors and swift blue rivers of Southern Oregon and I am an avid whitewater kayaker and all-around outdoorsman as a result. I enjoy spending my free time exploring the woods, rivers, beaches and peaks of the Pacific Northwest. I've also been infected with a nasty travel bug ever since I was nine and have a wanderlust for far-off places. At this point in my life I've spent quite a bit of time in Portugal, India and East Africa and hope to keep wandering this planet throughout the rest of my time on it.
My academic interests are somewhat polar from my hobbies. I enjoy wrestling with the intellectual challenges posed by our (climatically, socially, politically, etc.) changing world, especially in the context of cities and the built environment. I think the major arenas in which the challenges of the future will be met are the cities of our world. My career in Environmental Studies has been increasingly informed by my art minor in the last couple years, and my interests have become oriented towards architecture, sustainability and change in the built environment.
