I examine farm animal welfare laws in the United States and Europe. The US has significantly weaker protections than the EU, and this capstone unpacks likely reasons for this discrepancy, particularly political and economic factors. I conduct comparative legal analyses, looking for correlations between stronger and weaker companion animal protection, farm animal welfare, and healthcare laws across nations. I conduct more in-depth analyses of animal welfare laws in individual states, and examine the difficulties in enforcing these laws, especially difficulties stemming from interstate commerce policy. I also examine meat prices across nations, to highlight motivators for higher levels of meat consumption.
